Create Your Own Textures Part II

Last year, I posted a tutorial Make Your Own Textures With Effexy App. I'm not sure what has happened with Effexy as it crashes when I open it on my iPad, but not to worry...there are plenty of other apps you can use to make your own textures. This will allow you to create images like this:

Here's a quick tutorial to show you how:

You can start with an image of an already textured surface, or even a solid colored image like this one below.

To create my texture, I opened the image in PhotoToaster and applied the Antiqued Texture.

The PhotoToaster changes were saved and then the image was reopened in Modern Grunge where Scratch 03 was applied and the image saved.

Next to iColorama...under the Preset category, select Texture and then experiment until you get one you like. You can change blend modes and opacity to create a unique look.

I think you're getting the idea - find apps that you already have on your device and utilize the ones that have textures, gradients, color overlays, etc to stack on top of your solid image. You don't have to use as many apps as shown here. You could get a similar effect by saving and reapplying textures from only one app until you create something that you like.

So, let's see what it looks like when applied to a photo.

I selected one of my floral images

Using Superimpose I layered the texture over the flower, added a circular gradient mask and changed the blend mode to Lighten. I tweaked the adjustments a bit in the Filter section of Superimpose and saved the image.

Be sure to save your textures in an album on your device to use again and again.

Happy Creating!
