Attention Mobile Filmmakers - Call for Submissions

The first smartphone film festival in Switzerland starts in May 2015

Mobile Motion Film Festival (MoMo) is dedicated to films exclusively shot on mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, GoPro or webcams. Films must be submitted before 31 January 2015.


Mobile Motion Film Festival is planned as a multi­-day event in the medium term. In the first year, however, it will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2015 in Zurich. The best 15 films will be shown and awards presented, plus talks on the subject of mobile filmmaking. The films can be up to 10 minutes in duration. Awards will be given in the categories of "Best Film (International)", "Best Swiss Film", "Young Talent", "Audience Choice", "Special Mention". The jury will be composed of personalities from the film and entertainment industry. There will be a live stream of the entire event, as well as a live broadcast to a London cinema.

The crowd has made ​it possible
Andrea Holle (cinema enthusiast and PR specialist from Winterthur, Switzerland), Si Horrocks (director, musician and writer from London) and Mike Myshko (filmmaker and designer from
London) form the Mobile Motion Film Festival team. Thanks to the 131 supporters of a crowdfunding campaign, the festival was successfully brought to life in October 2014. The campaign exceeded their expectations, showing there is a need for a festival like MoMo. The festival will offer a selection of the best short films made on mobile devices from around the world. Convincing concepts and good stories are the main selection criteria. "We believe a great storyteller will tell a great story, regardless of what she uses to tell it," says Si Horrocks.

Leveling the playing field
In many countries, smartphone filmmaking is the only way for aspiring auteurs to practice their craft. The barriers for participation in Motion Mobile Film Festival is therefore kept as low as possible: Anyone who can get their hands on a smartphone can join. Mobile Motion Film Festival does not charge submission fees, as the belief is filmmakers have already invested a lot of passion and effort towards achieving their dreams. "With MoMo we want to discover and promote talent regardless of the available resources or relations with the film industry. Aspiring filmmakers should be encouraged to use existing technologies and to experiment with it," says Andrea Holle, festival director. So far, the festival has recieved submissions from Bulgaria, Germany, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey, USA, Venezuela and Lebanon.
